Alejandro Against The Machine

This site is meant to be a partial collection of my thoughts, experiences, learnings, opinions and incoherent ramblings.

During the last decade I’ve mostly worked as a software engineer, with the majority of that time spent at Block (formerly Square) and Stitch Labs, and a tiny portion of it as a freelance developer. However, I’ve also been a stock boy at a supermarket, a fast food server, a math tutor, and held engineering positions at a geothermal drilling company and at a large textile manufacturer.

I like software development, particularly around distributed systems, development frameworks, security and generally in figuring out ways to make software simpler for both users and developers. But don’t be fooled, in certain ways I also secretly hate technology.

Outside of software I’m interested in fairly random things such as uncertainty and risk taking, human misjudgement, Formula 1, Pumas (UNAM) and how to lose money in the markets.

I’m not a terribly ambitious person, but at some point in my life I do hope to contribute something selfless and meaningful to the world in whatever form that might be. I foolishly hope for the world to become a more rational place where humility becomes a driving force for moral reason that allows us to better distinguish right from wrong and learn from our mistakes.
